The 8th round of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowships will open shortly. See the UKRI pre-announcement. The University of Bath is permitted to support up to four applications to this round, with a UKRI submission deadline of 4 July 2023.

Potential applicants should submit an internal expression of interest to be considered for this round, no later than 16:00 on 27 March 2023 to resdev@bath.ac.uk. You will be required to complete and submit this template case for support and template CV.

Due to the requirement for host contribution to the fellows salary and offer of an open-ended post after the fellowship, all applications must be strongly supported by the host Head of Department. You should therefore provide confirmation and/or evidence of such support with your submission.

Applications will be shortlisted by a panel with experience as UKRI FLF reviewers/panel members, followed by decision panel of Associate Deans Research and PVCRs. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the internal selection process soon after the University selection panel meetings and during the week commencing 3 April 2023.

This scheme is for early career researchers who are transitioning or establishing independence. Ambitious programmes of research can be funded for up to four years, with the option to apply to renew for a further three years. There is no minimum or maximum project cost. The fellowship offers flexibility to support outstanding individuals and particularly welcomes applications from those with diverse career backgrounds, returning from career break or wishing to work part-time.

Applicants who have already achieved research independence and/or seniority, e.g. by securing funding, or by managing a significant programme of work should not apply.

An applicant must clearly demonstrate:

  • how the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) award will support and enable their long-term career goals
  • broad knowledge of the area of interest and a compelling vision for the excellence and importance of their proposed research or innovation
  • their own original and ambitious plans or ideas
  • that they can take a leading role in their area
  • the suitability of the proposed environment or environments for their research or innovation and its impact.
