Members of the Local Health and Global Profits (LHGP) research consortium, led by the University of Bath and funded by UK Research and Innovation as part of Population Health Improvement UK (PHI UK), will be participating in Prevention Research 2026.
Taking place on 4-5 March at Vox, Birmingham, LHGP researchers will be presenting abstracts and contributing to key sessions exploring the future of prevention research and health equity in the UK.
The conference, organised by PHI UK, the UKPRP Prevention Research Network, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research, brings together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners working to prevent non-communicable diseases and reduce health inequalities across the UK.
We invite colleagues from across the prevention research community to join us at this important gathering, whether you are conducting research into the primary prevention of non-communicable diseases, developing interventions to reduce health inequalities and illness, or using this research to improve policy or service delivery.
Featured speakers and sessions
The event will feature keynote speaker Prof. Sharon Friel, a leading authority on health equity and climate change and Laureate Fellow at the Australian National University.
Among the LHGP representatives, Deputy Director Dr Nason Maani and LHGP member Dr Esther Chanakira will participate in an innovative "Healthy and Equitable Futures Fishbowl" session.
Chaired by Prof. Petra Meier, Director of the PHI UK Policy Modelling for Health research consortium, this interactive discussion will explore critical questions about what healthy and equitable futures could look like, the trends and influences shaping health equity for future generations, and potential scenarios if the future becomes less healthy and equitable.
The session will also feature Prof. Jayati Das-Munshi, Professor of Social & Psychiatric Epidemiology at King's College London, Prof. Rosie McEachan, Director of Born in Bradford and PHI UK Healthy Urban Places research consortium lead, and Daniel Black, Research Director at the University of Bristol. Conference attendees will be invited to participate in the conversations.
