What is changing
Microsoft will retire Teams Live Events on 30 June 2026. After this date, you will no longer be available to create or run events on Teams Live Events.
Teams and staff who currently use Teams Live Events should move to Teams Townhall, which has been designed to replace Live Events.
What this means for you

You can still schedule and run Teams Live Events.
After 30 June 2026
- You cannot schedule a Live Event for any date after this day
- If a Live Event was scheduled before February 2026, it will continue to run until February 2027
From 1 July 2026
- All new large events must be created in Teams Townhall
- Teams Live Events will no longer be available to schedule
February 2027
Teams Live Events will be retired.
How Teams Townhall compares to Live Events
- Works in a similar way to Teams Live Events
- Uses familiar presenter and attendee roles
- Supports large broadcasts and structured events
- Offers improved features and a more straightforward setup

About the new Teams Townhall experience
Teams Townhall is designed as an improved replacement for Live Events, offering more flexibility and better integration with Teams.
Browser requirements
To use all features of Town Halls (including Q&A and commenting), use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
If you join using Firefox or Safari, you can watch the event, but you cannot use interactive features such as Q&A, chat, or comments.
