Since its launch in 2018, the Centre has played a key role in strengthening the University’s global reputation as a world-class centre of excellence in both evolutionary science and evolution education.

This success has been made possible through the generous investment of Dr Jonathan Milner and the Evolution Education Trust (EET), which has funded a new building on campus as well as supporting PhD students through the Milner (EET) Scholars initiative.

The Centre is now fully established, so in line with Jonathan’s wishes, the Milner Centre for Evolution will transition to become the Centre for Evolution (CEvo) on 31 May 2026.

The Centre for Evolution’s mission, research strengths and commitment to education and public engagement will remain unchanged, continuing to build on the strong foundations developed over the past decade.

Jonathan and EET express their continued commitment to the cohort of EET Scholars and look forward to hearing about the exciting research developments and engagements to come. The EET remains open to exploring opportunities for future collaborations on a project-by-project basis.

Dr Jonathan Milner, Chair of the Evolution Education Trust said: "It has been a great pleasure to support the University of Bath to boost its focus on evolutionary science and develop an amazing cohort of young research talent.

“We complete this phase of engagement confident in the knowledge that the University of Bath’s Department of Life Sciences is now truly world-class in both evolutionary science and evolution education research."

Professor Turi King, Director of the Centre for Evolution, said: "I'd like to thank Jonathan and the EET for helping build the University of Bath's reputation globally as a centre of expertise for evolution science and education.

“His vision has enabled us to build a thriving, internationally recognised community of researchers. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved together, and we look forward to building on these strong foundations in the years ahead.”
