On Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm there will be a national test of the UK Emergency Alerts service. The alerts, sent through mobile phones and tablets, will be used to let you know about emergency situations such as severe weather such as storms or flooding. Your phone may vibrate, read out the alert, and make a loud sound for around 10 seconds, even if your phone is on silent.
The message you receive will clearly state that this is a test and that no action is required.
Older phones or those not connected to 4G or 5G networks may not be compatible with the system, and may not receive the alert.
Survivors of domestic abuse may have a second phone hidden from their partner, and need to turn the alerts off to stay safe. Find out how to opt-out of the alerts on Android phones and iPhones.
