New ‘sensitivity’ functionality within Microsoft
As we extend our approach to keeping information safe by Classifying and labelling all information that is created to be shared, new Microsoft functionality allows you to easily apply labels to your Microsoft files.
Microsoft refers to this as the file’s ‘Sensitivity’.
When it will be available, and what you need to do
From Monday 22 September, new functionality will start to be rolled out to staff.
You may be prompted to re-start your device.
How to apply labels to your Microsoft files
The Classification (or Sensitivity) options available within Microsoft have been configured to match the three classes used at the University:
- Confidential
- Internal
- Public
Follow the instructions within the Microsoft guidance to get started: Apply sensitivity labels to your files - Microsoft Support.
Why Information classification and labelling is key to keeping our information safe
Classifying and labelling the information you create as either Confidential, Internal, or Public quickly indicates the level of impact, or harm, it would cause the University if it was accidently disclosed.
Communicating this via a classification label therefore helps others to handle and protect your information appropriately.
Review the University announcement to Classify and label your information to keep it secure to find out more, or complete the optional bite-sized course on our MetaCompliance platform.
