Recently our Campus Services Landscaping Team cleared the area near to the West entrance of campus, which had once had been the original plant nursery dating back to the 1960s.
Over the last 30 years it had been left to grow wild but, by reusing materials and with an Alumni fund grant of £5,000, the team have developed a wonderful Community Garden. The official opening last week was attended by the team as well as other staff, and several of our campus neighbours.
The area will be used to:
- support work in Natural Sciences, using the plants for research
- staff and student wellbeing groups
- provide an activity base for children attending the University nursery
- offer general staff and student participation in gardening
Jane Loveys, Director of Campus Services, said, "I was super proud of the team for what has been achieved. We enjoyed delicious potatoes harvested yesterday from one of the beds. It's a real good news story when vision, will, and hard work all came together."
