Pam Chesters CBE, former Chair of Council at the University of Bath, has been awarded the 2026 Chancellor’s Medal in recognition of her distinguished and sustained service to the University.
The Chancellor’s Medal, established in 1994, honours individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the life and work of the University. Pam’s tenure as Chair of Council from 2019-2025 spanned a period of significant challenge and change, during which she played a central role in guiding the institution’s governance and strategic direction.
Pam led Council through the COVID 19 pandemic, the implementation of the Halpin Review, the reform of Court and the revision of the University’s Statutes - a series of major undertakings that strengthened the University’s governance and helped position it for future success.
Professor Phil Taylor, Vice-Chancellor and President, formally presented the medal and praised Pam's contribution, saying: “The University community is incredibly grateful for the time Pam has given as Chair of Council.
“Her leadership has been marked by wisdom, clarity of purpose and a deep commitment to the University community.
“It has been a real pleasure to work with her and to benefit from her wisdom and experience.
“It is very fitting that she should be awarded the Chancellor’s Medal, which goes some way towards recognising the valuable contribution she has made to the life and work of the University.”
Pam was appointed Chair of Council in April 2019 and brought to the role extensive experience from senior leadership positions across the public, private and voluntary sectors, including roles in British Petroleum, the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, Anchor Trust and Action for Children. In 2013 she was awarded a CBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to vulnerable children.
