This year, the International Staff Network, in collaboration with the Culture & Inclusion Team, is launching a new peer-mentoring scheme to support international colleagues settling into life at the University and in the UK.

What is the scheme?

In line with the University’s global ambitions and commitment to supporting our international community, this initiative aims to help new staff feel welcomed, connected, and valued. As a mentee, you’ll be matched with a peer who shares similar lived experiences and can offer insights, tips, and encouragement as you navigate your new environment.

Who is the scheme for?

This scheme is open to:

  • professional services staff within their probationary period (usually 6 months).
  • academic staff in their first year at the University.

Why is having a mentor helpful?

As a mentee, you will likely be new to the UK and the University and will be looking for a friendly face who can support you whilst you settle in. Having a mentor can help you to:

  • Connect with someone who understands your experience.
  • Build confidence and navigate challenges.
  • Expand your support network and meet new people.
  • Gain insight into how the University works.
  • Navigate cultural and language differences.

How do I get involved?

If you’re interested in being mentored, please:

  1. Browse our mentor profiles page.
  2. Fill out this form with a few details about yourself.

We’ll then match you with a mentor and help you get started. You’ll meet with your mentor around once a month, and we’ll ask for feedback at the end of the scheme to help us improve the experience for future participants.

Application deadline extended to Friday 12 December 2025.
