Local pharmaceutical product manufacturer, Pharmaxo, has provided £230,000 worth of vital laboratory equipment to support research activity in the Department of Life Sciences, as well as tables and chairs for the Faculty of Science and private study booths for use by students across the University of Bath.
Pharmaxo is the parent company of University of Bath spin out and winners of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and Innovation, Bath ASU. They are already a valuable research partner of the University's Department of Life Sciences, supporting ongoing research programmes and working with the Department on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme, which was awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Innovate UK on completion.
Speaking of the gift, Josh Lowth, Head of Marketing at Pharmaxo, says, “We started our journey as a pharmacy aseptic services unit within the University of Bath in 2000, and have worked collaboratively on many exciting projects ever since.
“It has been an invaluable partnership for us, and we hope that this gift in kind will have an immediate and tangible impact on the University, allowing the Department of Life Sciences to continue their incredible work and ensuring students across the University have the space they need to focus.”
The company has since been acquired by Icon Group, the leading operator of integrated cancer care centres throughout Australia, South East Asia and the UK. This comes with many benefits for Pharmaxo’s ability to support the NHS and patients around the UK, including the sharing of expertise and a boost in investment.
“We are thrilled to have been given this generous gift from the Pharmaxo team,” says Anneke Lubben, Director of Research Infrastructure and Facilities at the University of Bath. “The laboratory equipment is a valuable addition to our research infrastructure and will support the expanding research portfolio in our Department of Life Sciences, in areas such as disease detection and cancer treatment."
Speaking of the partnership, Sarah Hainsworth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise adds, "The ongoing relationship between the University and Pharmaxo is greatly valued and is a great example of how University business partnerships can continue to deliver societal impact. Thank you to the Pharmaxo team and Dr Andy Watts for making this possible”.
