The launch event was delivered by Professor Duncan Craig with his talk on ‘Delivering drugs to the body: how to swallow a statue’. Duncan guided the audience through his journey in academia, the work of his research team based at the London School of Pharmacy, Queens University Belfast, University of East Anglia and UCL. He spoke of his research, specifically the drug research techniques aimed to deliver drugs to the body, in the right place, at the right time, and at the right concentration, and highlighted the collaborations across physics, engineering, chemistry and biology that have punctuated his career.
Duncan’s delivery catered for and enabled the non-pharmacists in the audience to follow along, despite the pharmaceutical terminology and extensive knowledge required for the research techniques discussed. This was interspersed with the engaging story of his career more generally and delivered with a candid take on both professional successes as well as setbacks.
The event brought together colleagues from across the Faculty’s professional services and academic communities, and members of Duncan’s UCL research group. Colleagues were able to ask questions at the end of the talk, with many guests attending the drinks reception after to continue the discussions and connect with fellow colleagues.
For those unable to attend, you can listen to a recording of the talk.
