Professor Momna Hejmadi will be taking up the role of Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) following the news that Professor Julian Chaudhuri is retiring from the University of Bath at the end of June.
Professor Hejmadi was appointed to this Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor role after a competitive internal process, while we undertake recruitment for the longer-term post.
Professor Momna Hejmadi is well known to the University community and has undertaken a number of roles both centrally and in the Faculty of Science, including as Associate PVC Education (Education Quality and Enhancement).
Professor Hejmadi is a Professor of Bioscience Education and a 2015 National Teaching Fellow with a background in biomedical research on hypoxia signalling pathways in cancer and neurobiology. Her current research interests are in evolution education and pedagogies in enhancing learning. Momna has been Associate Dean (Education), responsible for the strategic and academic leadership in the Faculty of Science’s learning, teaching and student experience for all taught courses, as well as Associate Dean (International), focussed on international partnerships, recruitment and profile.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Phil Taylor, said:
We had strong candidates for this interim position, and I am pleased that Professor Hejmadi will be stepping into this role. The quality of our education is one of our core strengths and will remain a key focus in our strategy. Momna knows the University very well, and I know she will be looking forward to working with colleagues across the community over the coming months to maintain focus and momentum on our education initiatives.
Professor Hejmadi said:
It's a real privilege to step into the role of Interim PVC (Education) and I'm delighted to work with colleagues in Bath to help shape a future-ready education offering. I'm particularly looking forward to building on our strengths to deliver meaningful impact for our students and our community.
Professor Hejmadi will be working with Professor Chaudhuri on a smooth transition in June before taking the role on fully at the beginning of July 2026.
