At this time of year, approaching and leaving campus at peak times is often in darkness and can be in poor weather.

When visibility is reduced, safety and respect for one another is even more important.

If you overtake someone who is on a bicycle, please ensure you follow the Highway Code and give them at least 1.5 metre space, about a car door width, as promoted by BANES Council.

If running or cycling to campus please remember to make sure your fellow commuters can see you to give you space, use lights and wear high visibility or reflective clothing – be bright, be seen.

Thank you,

Chris Young, Deputy Director Safety & Wellbeing Services
