The Momentum, Capacity, Capability (MCC) strategic initiative has secured approval for all staff members to be upgraded to Microsoft Teams Premium. All staff members currently using MS Teams will be upgraded automatically, with the new functionality available from go-live on 12 January 2026.
This is a major investment in our people, to streamline and enhance our meetings and webinars, for more productive and secure collaboration. With over 1,700 MS Teams meetings daily across the University, we hope to save hours of related notetaking and summarising, and to enable attendees to focus entirely on discussions.
Aligned with the University’s Foundations for the Future strategic priority, the MCC initiative aims to deliver a wide range of targeted efficiencies to support the University’s long-term agility, resilience and sustainability.
What will Teams Premium provide?
The extra functionality will provide highly sophisticated, AI-generated meeting minutes and insights, as well as offering enhanced meeting security and advanced webinar features.
To support the launch, there will be live and recorded demos, FAQs and a support portal to help you make the most of these features to make your lives easier.
The feedback from test users has been very encouraging, such as that of Loretta Gibson, Director of Operations for the Faculty of Engineering and Design: “I have just used intelligent recap to capture notes and write action points. 15 minutes post-meeting, the notes and actions list was ready to share with the attendees. It literally took me 5 minutes to read and make a few tweaks. I'm very impressed.”
Who is eligible?
If you already have access to MS Teams via your University of Bath account, you will be upgraded automatically. If you are unsure, please click on this My Account link to check that you have an A5 MS Teams licence. If you do, you will be upgraded.
What should you look out for?
During the roll-out period from 22 December to 11 January, users may notice notifications or subtle visual changes within MS Teams. However, the full functionality will only be available from 12 January.
Please look out for further announcements in January, when we will be promoting the launch with roadshows and other activities to get you up and running with your new Teams Premium account.
A big thank you to DDaT’s Microsoft 365 team, who were instrumental in proposing, testing and securing the funding for this major boost to our collaborative productivity and digital support.
