Since it started in 2019, our Staff Wellbeing Champion network has played a vital role in fostering a healthy and supportive workplace culture. The network helps raise awareness of health and wellbeing initiatives at the University, while signposting colleagues to relevant resources and support services. Our wellbeing champions are at the heart of our efforts to enhance staff wellbeing, supporting the delivery of our Be Well at Bath strategy.
The network has gone from strength to strength and were last year’s winners of the 'Overall Team' and the Community and Inclusion (Team) awards at the Staff Recognition Awards.
Organised by Staff Wellbeing Manager Heather Girling, the celebration event was an opportunity to reflect on the network’s achievements and begin shaping plans for the upcoming academic year.
The invitation was extended to managers and Heads of Department, as an opportunity to learn more about the network and the work they do.
Greg Sharp, Deputy Director of Sport said:
It was fantastic to celebrate the wellbeing champions and the impact of the network on Tuesday, it was incredible to read and hear about the wide range of programmes, interventions and support initiatives established across University departments. The event highlighted how critical the network has become to supporting staff and it was a great opportunity to thank all the champions for their commitment and energy that continues to ensure staff feel part of a positive and vibrant community.
Kate Robinson, University Librarian talks about the impact the Library’s wellbeing champion has had on their team:
As well as sharing information about initiatives to support us, Katrin creates opportunities for us to come together and keep in touch with each other, which can be tricky at busy times and with hybrid working. We really appreciate her dedication and the value she adds through her role, that benefits us all.

It was great to see so many of the Staff Wellbeing Champions at the end of year celebration event. All those that attended ─ colleagues, managers and heads of departments alike ─ expressed appreciation and admiration for the range of interventions the champions offer, as well as their impact on the culture of wellbeing.
