It is with sadness that the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies has learned of the death of William (Bill) Brooks, Emeritus Professor of French, and a former Head of Department who served also on Senate and Court.
Dr Steve Wharton, doyen de français in PoLIS, said, "Bill was the epitome of the phrase “A scholar and a gentleman” whose erudition was lightly worn, and shared without pretension. He was a collegial leader, acting always in the interest of Department over self, and he will be missed not only by his family but also by all who have had the honour of knowing him and/or working with him."
