Overall satisfaction of Bath students was 88.3%, well above the UK average of 82.6%. This was a rise of 1.1% on last year’s survey results, while nationally student satisfaction dropped by 1% in 2020 compared to 2019.

For full time students studying their first degree in the UK, the University ranks joint 7th, and joint best in the south west, when comparing HE institutions listed in the Guardian University Guide.

The survey is open to all final year students, asking more than 20 questions about teaching, learning, support and assessment. Seven departments had satisfaction ratings above 90%, including; Architecture and Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Management, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmacy and Pharmacology and Physics.

Four of the University’s courses received satisfaction ratings of 100%; BEng (Hons) Electrical Power Engineering, BSc (Hons) International Management with Year Abroad, MPharm (Hons) Pharmacology with Year Long Work Placement, and MPhys Physics with a further 29 courses at or above 90% satisfaction.

Professor Peter Lambert, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching), said:

We are delighted to see that our students are graduating from the University with such high levels of satisfaction with the learning and teaching they have received here at Bath. This an extraordinary achievement, especially given the challenges we have all faced this year. In particular it shows how well colleagues across the University have adapted to COVID-19.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our staff who have worked so hard to support our students through very difficult times, and helped them fulfil their potential. We should all be proud of these results, and of course will continue to work together to ensure that students continue to receive the best education we can give them at the University.

The results of the NSS provide valuable information for prospective students, and help universities, colleges and students’ unions to further improve the education and services they provide.
