The University of Bath has improved its position in the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings.

Bath has been named the world’s 166th best university in the 2022 rankings, moving up seven places from its joint-173rd position last year.

Since 2014, the University has moved up 21 places and in the 2022 edition, it was placed in the top 13% globally.

The eighteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings, released today by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, names the world’s 1,300 best universities.

Professor Ian White DL FREng, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bath, said: “We already perform strongly nationally, being in the top ten of the three major UK university rankings. It is pleasing to see evidence of our growing international reputation and profile shown in our improved position in this year’s QS World University Rankings. This is the result of the sincere efforts of many people across our whole University community, for which we should feel very proud.”

The University scored particularly strongly for the quality of its graduates and its ability to attract teaching and student talent from around the world; placing 97th for Employer Reputation, 109th for International Faculty Ratio and 112th for International Student Ratio.

The rankings provide a comparative analysis on the performance of the world’s top 1,300 universities across 97 countries. A total of 6,415 institutions were nominated for evaluation. The results also account for the distribution and performance of 14.7 million academic papers published between 2015 and 2019, and the 96 million citations received by those papers.

Bath is rated highly in several rankings and reputational measures, including within the top 10 of each of the UK’s major leagues tables (6th in The Guardian University Guide, and 9th in both The Times & The Sunday Times Good University Guide and The Complete University Guide).
