Postgraduate researchers at the University of Bath are among the most satisfied in the UK, according to the latest Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES).
The University is ranked 9th overall in the 2025 survey, with an overall satisfaction score of 87%.
Bath’s international research students gave particularly strong feedback, placing the University 3rd overall, 1st for online learning resources, and within the top 10 for its research community.
University of Bath Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Doctoral), Professor Joe Devine, said: “It’s incredibly pleasing to know postgraduate researchers at Bath rate their experience so highly. These results show we are making rapid progress and ensuring the University of Bath is known as one of the best places in the UK and the world to build a research career and carry out research with impact.”
Professor Sarah Hainsworth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), added: “We have the resources, expertise and structures in place to offer a world-class experience to researchers. The latest PRES results are testament to the hard work of many people within our community, including Professor Joe Devine, our Doctoral Academic Director Dr Rachel Arnold, and colleagues in the Doctoral College, who make sure that we keep improving and can stand tall alongside the world’s leading institutions.”
A total of 632 full- and part-time Bath PhD candidates, Master of Research (MRes) students and professional doctorate students taking part in the research phase of their studies completed the survey, which is run by Advance HE.
The survey follows the recent publication of the National Student Survey 2025, which collates feedback from undergraduate students. That saw the University outperform sector benchmarks in six out of seven measured themes and continue to improve its scores year-on-year.
