The University is thrilled to welcome over 150 international students from the esteemed Chevening scholarships programme on 16 April for a high-profile conference themed around global leadership and change. This event, facilitated by experts from the University, will bring together scholars to explore how they can build a better world and inspire global change through leadership and innovation. The conference is a highlight of the annual Chevening programme of events.

As part of the conference, 24 scholars will present their research, while distinguished experts from the University, including Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Phil Taylor, and Margaret Heffernan, Professor in the University of Bath School of Management, will deliver keynote speeches.

The prestigious scheme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and partner organisations, offers students from around the world fully funded scholarships to pursue a master’s degree in the United Kingdom. The award is given to individuals with exceptional leadership potential and strong academic backgrounds.

Professor Phil Taylor expressed his delight about the University hosting the event, stating: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Scholars and representatives from Chevening, and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. The University of Bath receives several scholars each year and the conference is a great opportunity for us to strengthen our partnership with Chevening. The ethos of the Chevening scholarship programme aligns well with that of our University and it’s a great pleasure to showcase our globally facing institution to all participants.”

The Chevening scholarship programme, established in 1983, has enabled nearly 60,000 individuals to study in the United Kingdom. Each year, more than 1,000 scholarships are awarded to outstanding candidates selected by British embassies and high commissions around the world. Currently, six Chevening scholars are placed at the University.

Andrew Chadwick, Director of the Chevening Secretariat, shared his excitement: “We’re all looking forward to attending the next conference in Bath. The University of Bath is a valued partner for the Chevening programme, and I’m sure the scholars will maximise the opportunity to share knowledge, build networks and enrich their time in the UK by visiting this prestigious university and historical city.”
