Operating every Friday and Saturday from 10pm to 4am, the Bath Safe Bus has become a trusted presence in the city centre, used by students for all types of services. The Bath Safe Bus offers a warm, non-judgmental space for anyone who needs support during the evening, whether they’re feeling unwell, lost their friends, are overwhelmed or simply in need of a safe space. Staffed by medical professionals, security and volunteers, the team provides everything from phone chargers to first aid, emotional support, flip-flops and sexual health products.
“I’m really pleased that the University of Bath has agreed to sponsor the Bath Safe Bus for another year. The service continues to play an important role in supporting students to get home safely at night, and this ongoing sponsorship clearly shows the University’s commitment to student safety and to the wider night-time economy in Bath,” said Nick Bishop, Safe and Secure BCRP (Business Crime Reduction Partnership).
Since launching in March 2023, the Bath Safe Bus has supported 264 University of Bath students who needed medical or welfare support. As well as providing help on the ground, the Safe Bus plays an important role in helping students feel confident and safe in the city. Each year, the team attends the Freshers’ Fair alongside Avon and Somerset Police and have delivered night-time safety talks to students within the SU, focusing on how to stay safe while enjoying a night out in the city and where to turn for support if they ever feel vulnerable.
Professor Cassie Wilson, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Student Experience and Sport), said: “We’re committed to making sure our students feel safe and supported when they’re out enjoying the city at night, and the Bath Safe Bus plays a vital role in that. It offers reassurance, practical help, and a friendly face exactly when it’s needed most. We’re proud to continue our sponsorship and to stand behind a service that makes such a meaningful difference to student wellbeing and the wider community.”
The renewed partnership ensures the Safe Bus can continue supporting University of Bath students throughout 2026, helping to keep Bath a safe and welcoming place for students enjoying the city’s nightlife. Fellow sponsors include Bath College, Bath Spa University, Labyrinth Bath and Norland College.
