Every November men across the UK take on the task of Movember - growing a moustache to raise awareness of male health issues including testicular cancer, mental health and suicide. This year a number of men across the University including Student Services staff, the SU and various sports clubs have been taking part. Thirteen teams were created and some of the top fundraisers were our sports clubs including Rugby, Hawks (touch rugby) and Lacrosse. Between us we've raised over £11,000.

The Director of Student Services, Anthony Payne, said:

In the UK, the statistics around men’s mental health are shocking. Twelve men a day take their own lives making it the biggest killer of males under 45 in the UK. In relation to physical health, one man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer, while more than 333,000 are living with the disease. Raising awareness of these challenges can really save lives and the money we raise this Movember will help fund research that will change the way men are treated and supported.

There's still time to donate. You can do this via the University's official Mo Space page below.

Student Services will be launching initiatives in the New Year to support men's health to give men the opportunity to talk about their mental health in a supported way through activity.
