Last month, the Steering Group established to consider how to implement the recommendations contained within the Halpin Review met for the second time.

As you may have seen, I set out the remit and membership of the group in my last update. At the Steering Group meeting, we debated and reflected mainly on those Halpin recommendations dealing with the composition of Council, the Head of Governance role and the review of Court. These are substantial matters and require careful consideration before we put a proposal to Council.

We also revisited the topic of the appointment of a staff member of Council to the Remuneration Committee and will be report back to the next meeting of Council on this matter.

The Group meets again on 3 September and I hope to be able to give a more substantive update on progress in October.
