From Tue 3 Mar, the University will begin a phased upgrade of University-managed desktop PCs to Windows 11. You will receive a notification only when the upgrade is scheduled for your device and ready to start.

Although Windows 10 reached the end of support in Oct 2025, University-managed devices running Windows 10 continue to receive Extended Security Updates until they are upgraded or replaced.

Upgrade timeline

The rollout will be delivered in phases, starting with devices that are straightforward to upgrade. This helps reduce disruption for staff and ensures we can support more complex hardware and software setups as the rollout progresses.

The rollout will start with a small number of devices (around 100) and will scale up over the following months. Most staff will not see a notification immediately. The rollout is expected to be completed by Oct 2026.

What to expect

  • Your desktop will be rebuilt with a fresh Windows 11 setup (re-imaged), so anything saved locally on the PC will be erased
  • Set aside around 2 hours. Your PC will not be usable during the upgrade

When you receive the notification, select “More information” to open the Windows 11 Information Hub. It includes everything you need to prepare for and complete the upgrade.

Support and resources

The Windows 11 Information Hub includes preparation steps, what happens during the upgrade, reinstalling software and training and support materials.
