Commercial Determinants of Health Resource Hub
A curated collection of practical tools, frameworks, and evidence to support public health action on commercial determinants of health.
What are commercial determinants of health?
Commercial determinants of health (CDoH) - the ways in which commercial actors and practices influence health and health equity - represent one of the most significant challenges facing public health today. While many commercial actors contribute positively to health and society, certain powerful corporations are driving ill health, environmental destruction, and inequity1. From tobacco and alcohol to unhealthy food marketing, gambling, and fossil fuels, these industries shape the environments in which people live and the choices available to them, often with harmful consequences for population health. Addressing these determinants requires strategic communication, evidence-based policy, and coordinated action across multiple sectors.
About these resources
This resource hub, developed by the Local Health and Global Profits research consortium, showcases a collection of externally developed resources exploring the commercial and inter-related social, economic and political factors that impact our health. They are designed to support public health professionals, local authorities, policymakers, and advocates in understanding and responding to commercial determinants of health. Whether you are developing local policies, building cases for intervention, or engaging with stakeholders, these tools provide practical guidance grounded in evidence and experience.
Representing diverse perspectives and approaches to addressing commercial determinants of health, these resources may not align with LHGP's specific policy stances, and their inclusion reflects our commitment to facilitating broad learning and practice sharing rather than endorsing particular organisations or viewpoints.
