Factsheet

Purpose

To consider and determine appeals for individual members of staff against decisions in relation to their appointment or progression made by the Academic Staff Committee.

Reporting Relationships

The decision of an Academic Staff Appeal Committee will be reported to Senate.

Procedural Rules

Meetings

The Committee will be convened as required.

The minutes and summaries of meetings of the Committee are not published here because they contain information which relates to individuals or may compromise the financial interests of the University.

The procedure for appeals heard by the Committee was approved by Council on 3 July 2008.

Membership

Appointed Members

  • a lay member of Council (Chair)
  • a Dean of Faculty or Head of School (or a former Dean of Faculty or former Head of School) other than that of the appellant
  • a member of Senate
  • the Chair of Academic Assembly or a former Chair of Academic Assembly if the current Chair has a conflict of interest

Routine attendees

  • The Director of Human Resources or their nominee.
