This seminar explores the Council for At Risk Academics' (CARA) work supporting scholars facing persecution, violence, or conflict around the world.

Drawing on CARA’s history and current strategy, the session will examine key political and policy challenges - including the impact of UK immigration rules, the policy conflicts underpinning decisions about which academics to support, and the tension that can exist between supporting individual academic careers and broader capacity-building in home countries.

It will also consider emerging models such as transnational education and virtual fellowships, and invite discussion on how universities can respond meaningfully to global threats to academic freedom.

Please note: There will be a photographer present, please let us know if you prefer not to be photographed.
