Lemon Tree, an award-winning Israeli film directed by Eran Riklis, will be shown on 1 April at 6:30pm in the University Hall.

Lemon Tree is a 2008 Israeli film directed by Eran Riklis. It won multiple awards: Panorama Audience Award at the Berlin Film Festival, Best Performance by an Actress in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and Best Screenwriter in the European Film Awards. The film tells the story of Salma Zidane, a Palestinian widow whose family has owned a lemon grove for generations, and her fight to protect it from Israeli security forces. The showing will be followed by some Middle Eastern refreshments. The film will be shown in Arabic and Hebrew with English subtitles. The film highlights how a difficult political situation affects the life of normal people.

Speaker profiles

Eran Riklis is an Israeli film maker and he was the first Israeli to attend the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield. His films have been selected in several film festivals, among which Berlin, Toronto and Venice.
