Our skills development opportunities for international students are designed to support your academic development, cultural understanding, and professional communication. If English isn’t your first language, we offer a range of courses and workshops to help you build confidence and succeed in your studies and future career. Or, you might just want to deepen your understanding of British culture and history.
Whether you're a Visiting and Exchange student here for one semester, undertaking your Postgraduate Taught programme with us, or completing an undergraduate degree, we have a course to suit you.
English Language Skills
Improve your academic English with tailored support in areas such as writing, speaking, listening and grammar. These workshops are designed to help you communicate more effectively in your coursework and assessments, and are open to all students who do not have English as a first language.
Full details are available on the English Language Skills page.
Professional English for Employment
This in-person course is designed specifically for all Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students. It will help you develop confidence in using professional English across a range of workplace contexts, including meetings, presentations and written communication.
If you’re a PGT student starting in September 2025, you can register your interest using the Expression of Interest form.
British Studies
These courses give you the opportunity to explore key aspects of British culture, society and history through interactive seminars and workshops.
Visiting and Exchange students can take courses on Shakespeare and English Linguistics for credit, but both courses are open to all students. They offer a friendly environment to learn more about life in the UK, while developing your intercultural awareness and communication skills. (Some courses don't run every semester, so if you are only at Bath for a short time, please check the link below to see what is running during your time with us.)
You can find out more on the British Studies webpage.
