Using the fire alarm system for people who are deaf or hard of hearing

If you're a student, visitor or member of staff who is deaf or hard of hearing, you can use the fire alarm system in University buildings.

How the system works

The fire alarm system can alert you to fire alarms in University buildings if you're deaf or hard of hearing. The system works in University buildings on campus and in the city.

During the day

If you use the system, we'll give you a vibrating pager. If there is a fire alarm where you are or close to you during the day, the system sends a text message to your pager to tell you about the fire alarm.

At night

If you're a student, we'll also give you a pillow alarm to sleep on. If you live in University accommodation on campus or in the city, the pillow alarm vibrates to wake you up during the night when there is a fire alarm in your building or a building close to you.

How to get a pager and pillow alarm

Members of staff and visitors

If you're a visitor to the University or a member of staff, email the Campus Infrastructure Helpdesk on campus-infrastructure-helpdesk@bath.ac.uk to get a pager and be set up on the system. You do not have to pay to use the pager.

The Campus Infrastructure team will arrange training so you can learn how to use the system.

Students

If you're a student at the University, email the ResLife team on reslife@bath.ac.uk to get your pillow alarm and pager. You do not have to pay to use the pager or pillow alarm.

The ResLife team will arrange training so you can learn how to use the pager and pillow alarm.

Returning the pager and pillow

The University owns all the pagers, pillows, and batteries, so you must return them when you leave the University.

If you're a member of staff of a visitor, please give the pager back to the Campus Infrastructure team.

If you're a student, please give the pager and pillow alarm back to the ResLife team.
