We have an exciting opportunity to lead a team focussed on the support of specialist and advanced IT equipment, software and solutions supported by Digital, Data and Technology Group (DDaT), enabling the team to make a significant contribution to the on-going development of an exceptional service, and to provide support within a changing business, research and technical environment.

About the role

You will lead a small team of second line IT Support Engineers supporting the learning, teaching, research, and administrative activities of the University. You will be actively involved in the day-to-day delivery of an effective IT Delivery Service to the University, acting as the point of escalation for incidents and changes and will provide technical expertise and line management in your area, whilst maintaining a supportive environment for your team members.

A typical day may see you and your team helping to set up and deploy equipment within a research laboratory or practical teaching laboratory, providing advice and guidance on specialist software requests, or installing software for a computational project across a wide range of hardware and operating systems. However, no two days are the same, as every single day brings its own new challenges and opportunities to gain experience.

You will also assist in developing IT Delivery and Operations support services, whilst maintaining positive relationships with the customer-base and staff within DDaT.

This post is to lead a small team dedicated to the second line specialist IT support of staff and students; however, you will be expected to collaborate with colleagues from other Support teams in support of their areas.

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed-term basis until 2nd August 2027.

About you 

An ideal candidate in this role will:

• Have excellent interpersonal, leadership and management skills, alongside an understanding of technology and demonstrable IT and/ or Audio Visual (AV) Support skills.
• Have previous line management experience
• Be able to demonstrate experience of supporting IT or Audio-Visual hardware, software, or services (1st and 2nd tier) ideally in an academic environment.
• Display knowledge of IT Service Management principles and experience 
• Work effectively in a customer service environment

About the role 

We are looking for a Senior Staff Immigration Adviser to join our Human Resources team and help deliver a high-quality immigration service that enables talented people from around the globe to come to the UK, work at the University and continue their careers here.

Working closely with the Head of HR Operations and Staff Immigration, you will lead the delivery of the University's staff immigration service, providing expert advice on immigration and right to work matters, overseeing visa sponsorship activity, maintaining compliance with UKVI requirements and supporting the University's ability to attract and retain international talent.

You will also lead day to day operational activity within the Staff Immigration Team, supervise a Staff Immigration Adviser, develop compliance frameworks and training programmes, manage complex casework and contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance the international staff experience. As the University continues to expand its global reach through transnational education initiatives and international partnerships, an awareness of the potential immigration, mobility and compliance implications arising from these developments would be advantageous.

We recognise that immigration experience can be gained in many different settings. If you have experience in employment immigration, student immigration, another area of immigration practice, or a comparable regulatory or compliance environment, and enjoy helping people navigate complex requirements, we would love to hear from you.

About you 

We are looking for someone who can combine specialist knowledge with excellent customer service and relationship-building skills. You will have:

• Degree-level qualification (or equivalent relevant experience) and relevant immigration training.
• Experience providing immigration advice and support, together with a sound understanding of UK immigration legislation, UKVI requirements and associated employment law. 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interpret and explain complex information, exercise sound judgement, and resolve sensitive issues while building effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

The SU Activities Team supports more than 200 student-led groups, including societies, volunteer projects, sports clubs, and community initiatives. Our team of Coordinators play a key role in helping these groups thrive by providing guidance, oversight, and administrative support across a wide range of activities.

About the role

As a Society Coordinator, you will be a trusted source of advice and support for student societies within the activities area. You will help students with their planning of events, reviewing event documentation to ensure activities are safe, compliant, and well organised. This will include advising on areas such as risk assessments, budgets, venues, and event planning processes.

You will also support the Society Manager with annual planning activities and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of administrative processes. A key part of the role will involve monitoring student staff workloads and providing administrative support to help ensure projects and tasks are completed effectively and on time.

Cyber Security is at the heart of University strategic decision-making. Our ability to generate competitive advantage in the award of research grants and sponsorships is tied closely to our cyber security values and behaviours. Ensuring we’re a safe and secure organisation to do business with, protecting corporate interests and data throughout the supply chain.

The Security Operations Analyst is part of a team responsible for a broad range of cyber security tasks and activities, including management and operation of the University’s Security Operations Centre (SOC), operating and applying security controls in line with standard frameworks – ISO 27001, NIST CSF, Cyber Essentials – and facilitating risk-based decision-making to ensure maintenance of security posture.

You will be responsible for undertaking all aspects of security operations, including responding to and resolving security events and incidents, identifying vulnerabilities, deploying mitigation tactics and escalating where appropriate, safeguarding sensitive information from unauthorised access, and generally maintaining security posture in line with the University’s risk appetite.

Additionally, you will undertake risk assessments and perform horizon scanning, ensuring that the University control environment is optimally configured to respond to the latest threats to maintain resilience and continuity of service across key systems, services and infrastructure.

You will be expected to review security processes, systems and capabilities that affect the security of our most critical assets. You will proactively work with colleagues to identify areas of weakness and exposures and create recommendations for continual improvement.

Working across Cleaning, Grounds, Portering, Mail, Security, Retail and Hospitality, you will play a key role in protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, students, visitors and contractors.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading the development and implementation of the Campus Services Health & Safety Strategy.

About you

• At least two years’ experience in inspections, auditing and report writing.
• Experience of delivering training or raising safety awareness.

About the role

Undergraduate and Postgraduate students have the option of taking a one year work placement in industry as part of their degree. You will play a vital role in maintaining strong professional relationships with current placement providers in an industry facing role whilst also proactively sourcing and developing opportunities to generate new placements. You will act as a point of contact for students, academic staff and employers, dealing with enquiries and providing guidance. 

A major part of the role is to provide employability support to students on a one to one basis and good written English skills are essential. In addition, you will be required to deliver skills workshops and talks and must be a confident, lively presenter to communicate to the student audience. Your focus in the post will be on supporting students to apply for placements in the technology and automotive sectors and you will principally be supporting Mechanical and Electronic and Electrical Engineering students. 

About you

With excellent organisational skills, you will demonstrate a good use of initiative and have the ability to multi-task and prioritise a high workload. 

Attention to detail and good administrative record keeping are essential. We work together as a team to achieve overall results and you will need to be a good team player. 

An interest in learning about and working with engineering fields and industries would be beneficial. Placement Officers host companies on campus as well as visit them on site to promote the placement scheme so you will need strong interpersonal skills. You will display skills in mentoring or training young people as Placement Officers provide support to students 1-1, in small groups and in large lectures. 

This is a rewarding role supporting high achieving students at the start of their engineering careers. Training and support will be given in all aspects of the role and for future career development. Learn more about our Faculty and its programmes here.

Further information

This is a part time role (21.9 hours per week, three days). The Placements team follow a hybrid pattern but are a student facing team with 2 out of 3 day on campus in University term times, 1 out of 3 on campus during University holidays. 

This role is a fixed term parental leave cover with an ideal start date of early January 2027.
