About the role

  • Develop mathematical models for TB treatment – Enhance an Individual-Based Model (IBM) to capture patient heterogeneity in tuberculosis, integrating within-host dynamics, treatment pathways and treatment response to support personalised therapies.
  • Interdisciplinary research – Work within the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath, collaborating with mathematicians, clinicians and biological scientists to address real clinical challenges through modelling.
  • Research outputs – Publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences and contribute to future grant development in this 1-year MRC-funded position.
  • Research community – Join the Centre for Mathematical Biology and the Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics group, support PhD and undergraduate researchers, and engage in departmental activities.

About you

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

Essential

  • PhD in applied mathematics, mathematical biology, computer science, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Strong computational modelling and programming experience
  • Experience developing and analysing multi-scale mathematical models
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and work collaboratively across disciplines
  • Research publications and interest in presenting at conferences 

Desirable

  • Within-host modelling (e.g. immunology or pharmacology)
  • Infectious disease modelling

We particularly encourage applications from individuals currently underrepresented in academic mathematics and mathematical biology.

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis with an expected duration of 9 months.
