About the role

The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Bath is seeking to appoint a lecturer in computer systems engineering to deliver high-quality teaching and research in computer science and artificial intelligence.

  • You will develop an internationally leading independent research programme in computer systems engineering and artificial intelligence applied to electronic and electrical engineering. Your research should be aligned with one of the following research centres from the Faculty of Engineering and Design, CAER or Foundry.
  • You will teach aspects of applied computer systems engineering and artificial intelligence in both lectures and computational classes, more specialised units in the final year and contribute to our PGT course on AI (joint with other departments from the Faculty of Engineering and Design), maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, and its inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • You will be supported to contribute at an appropriate level to the administration, leadership, and management of the Department’s activities.

About you

At Bath we offer an exceptional environment for research teaching and learning and we wish to support you in reaching your potential for internationally leading research, in the broad field of computer systems engineering and artificial intelligence applied to electronic and electrical engineering. We would be interested to hear from you if your research interests lie in either climate adaptation & environment research or technologies, materials, tools and skills to achieve a truly sustainable engineering sector in the widest sense:

  • integration of AI/ML into electronic and electrical engineering (e.g. advanced computing techniques for Earth observation, sustainable electrical and electronic applications, virtual screening or digital twins for manufacturing);
  • utilisation and design of automation and robotics to accelerate electronic testing, manufacturing and optimisation;
  • application of data-centric approaches, including the use of “big data” and advanced simulation to allow more sustainable practices.
  • use AI/ML to accelerate more traditional computational workflows.

You should hold a PhD in Electronic & Electrical Engineering (or a closely related subject) and be able to demonstrate the potential to develop an internationally leading research programme, to acquire significant funding from UK and international sources, and to produce high quality publications.

You will be joining a progressive and thriving academic environment and will benefit from the collaborative and well-established Department and Faculty systems at the University of Bath. This includes a strong mentoring and personal & professional development environment in the Department, and the University’s professional development programme. The lifestyle advantages of working and living in one of the most beautiful and accessible areas in the UK are an added attraction.

Process

Please provide both research and teaching statements of up to two pages each in addition to a full CV.

Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership. The teaching vision should outline your areas of teaching expertise and a range of potential teaching subjects as well as course development interests. These are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application. In these documents you should also state how you will facilitate a positive and inclusive working environment at Bath.
