The Faculty of Engineering & Design (FED) at the University of Bath is a world-leading centre for research and education across Engineering and Architecture. We are presently  ranked first equal in the UK for our research in Architecture and Civil Engineering, and our taught programmes across the Faculty have been firmly established in the top 10 in the UK over a period of decades now. 

The faculty is supported by the Technical Services team of around 64 highly skilled technicians who provide a wide-ranging service offering technical expertise, advice and guidance together with design and manufacturing support to our academic and research staff, and to our undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Each department has a wide portfolio of research centres and teaching activities and these are supported by technicians who possess specialist skills in a diverse range of disciplines in a matrix organisational structure. 

We recognise the importance of attracting the highest level of skills and are committed to investing heavily in the development of our technical services team to support us to deliver on our ambitious plans.  

We are now seeking to make a number of technical appointments across the Faculty, currently ranging from Technical Manager to Student Workshop Technician. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join an established, top ten rated university at the forefront of world class research.

 

Our ambition

As enablers, our technical team support future leaders and how they interact with equipment and facilities. As part of our community, you will have a hand in their future, seeing their potential, offering influence, sharing your expertise. 

This is a unique opportunity to work with a large, dynamic technical services team supporting the interface between academic research, industry requirements and teaching. All research and innovation projects within the faculty involve multiple partners, academics, researchers, and industrial sponsors and rely heavily on the support and experience of our technician cohort

How could you be involved?

We have a range of facilities that keep the University’s research at its peak. Whether you are supporting the construction industry in IAAPS, or in the Milner Genomics Centre looking at evolution research, you can be sure that you’ll be working in and with a variety of specialist equipment and collaborating with colleagues with multi disciplinary expertise.

Technical members of staff work with academics one day, students the next so there is real variety but the reach of their role is integral to the smooth running of the University. The Technical Team’s contribution is key to the University, as without their skills and knowledge, we wouldn’t be able to teach or conduct research.

Working here you would: 

  • support high-impact research programmes;
  • provide excellent technical supervision; 
  • provide high-quality teaching (where appropriate).
