Peter Hartland Appointed External Member
Will undertake the responsibilities of members of governing bodies as set out in the CUC Guide for Members of Higher Education Governing Bodies in the UK.
Career
Graduating in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Bath in 1987, Peter then qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst and Young and followed a career in industry before moving into the Higher Education and ultimately the charity sector. For 15 years until 2024 he served as Chief Executive of St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield, an independent charity operating in the wider healthcare sector.
Peter is currently a trustee of Sheffield Town Trust, a non-executive director of Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and a non-executive director to the Gripple and Loadhog employee-owned manufacturing group based in South Yorkshire. Amongst other roles Peter has also served as chair of the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ Business Law Committee, and been a member of its Technical Strategy Board and Sustainability Committee.
Peter acted as Finance Director for both Sheffield and Leeds Universities Students’ Unions earlier in his career and has a keen interest in the welfare of students and the quality of their experience.
