Professor Alan Hayes Chair of Academic Assembly

Will undertake the responsibilities of members of governing bodies as set out in the CUC Guide for Members of Higher Education Governing Bodies in the UK.

Role

Professor Alan Hayes was elected Chair of Academic Assembly from 1 August 2021 for three years.

Career

Professor Alan Hayes became Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) for the Faculty of Science in 2013.

Alan is also Director of Teaching, Department of Computer Science, an approved assessor for the Teaching Excellence Framework, a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS), a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and a National Teaching Fellow.

Prior to joining the University of Bath he was Software Consultant, GEC-Marconi (1984 to 1991), Head of Division for Systems and Software Engineering, London South Bank University (1992 to 1997), Dean of Computing and Engineering, University of Wales, Newport, (1999 to 2005), Dean of Newport Business School, University of Wales, Newport (2005 to 2006), Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), University of Wales, Newport (2006 to 2008).

Alan's research area focuses on the use of technology in assessment.
