Reverend Ian Spence Coordinating Faith Leader

Faith Leader within the Chaplaincy

Role

Ian's role is to help facilitate faith groups on Campus and encourage respectful, engaging and inclusive dialogue between people of faith. Ian is also able to offer support, encouragement and spiritual care when needed. The role is to engage with people of all faiths and none, students and staff, in a non-judgemental environment.

Career

Ian is an ordained Baptist Minister and has focused on encouraging inclusion and diversity. Ian engaged in inter-faith conversation in inner city Bristol and Manchester, and also helped establish a church for LGBT+ people of faith in Birmingham. He is also a qualified Youth and Community Worker engaging in roles with young people in the centre of Bath.

Ian also freelances in broadcasting, working currently for the BBC and presenting on Radio Bath.

Education

Ian studied Youth and Community Work at UWE, Bristol (Dip HE) and Oxford Brookes (BA Hons). He also graduated in Contextual Theology (DipHE) University of Manchester and Urban Theology (MA) University of Manchester. Ian also studied Studio Management with the BBC.
