Jason Edwards Deputy Head of Business Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange

Responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering the University’s Knowledge Exchange (KE) strategy.

Role

Jason is responsible for establishing and managing partnerships between academics and companies. He plays a key role in fostering collaboration and driving innovation through external engagement. His role includes:

  • facilitating relationships between academic staff and businesses
  • leading and developing a comprehensive Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) service
  • strategically aligning external policy drivers with institutional priorities
  • identifying and promoting funding opportunities, including KTPs and Innovate UK schemes
  • supporting researchers in securing business-related funding
  • overseeing funded business partnerships to ensure successful delivery

Career

Jason brings extensive experience in research funding and development. Prior to his current role, he spent seven years at the University of Bath within the Business Development and Knowledge Exchange Team, where he specialised in Innovate UK funding and securing direct funding from organisations.

He also worked for four years in funding development and pre-award support teams, helping researchers prepare successful applications. Jason has supported funding bids to Research Councils, the European Commission, charities, and industry partners.

Education

Jason holds a First Class Honours degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Glamorgan, where he was awarded the prestigious Jordan Vincent Allen Award for being the most outstanding student in his field. He also holds an award in Improving Personal and Organisational Performance. He brings a strong skill set in pricing, negotiation, business development, and strategic partnerships. He is also experienced in policy and report writing, further strengthening his ability to support collaborative projects between academia and industry.
