Role
Dr Despina Moschou's role as Prize Fellow includes:
- expanding her research in biomedical applications
- developing an independent research group
- broadening her network of collaborators
- teaching and supervising on undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses
- supervising PhD students in bioelectronics
Career
Despina accepted the 50th anniversary Prize Fellowship in Bioelectronics in September 2016. She has applied microfabrication and microelectronic device expertise to develop disposable lab-on-a-chip systems for bioanalytical applications (molecular and immunoassay-based point-of-care diagnostic devices). Despina has pursued the lab-on-printed circuit board approach in an effort to realise disposable, mass-manufacturable lab-on-chip microsystems. To date, she has developed rapid, portable lab-on-PCB diagnostic microsystems for various clinical applications.
Education
- Dipl Eng Electrical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens, 2005
- PhD Microelectronic Technology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 2009
For her MEng final-year thesis, Despina designed and simulated Sigma-Delta modulator microelectronic circuits. The main part of her PhD research was conducted at the Institute of Microelectronics, NCSR “Demokritos”. She worked in close collaboration with Sharp Labs of America on the fabrication, characterisation and reliability of novel, high-performance poly-Si thin film transistors (TFTs) currently incorporated in smartphones.
