Career
Thomas specialised in water resources engineering before moving to the United Kingdom. Following a year working as a consulting hydrologist, he spent a decade working as a research scientist at the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH), where he headed research into hydrological extremes.
Thomas has also spent time as a research assistant at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and is a visiting researcher at the National Chungbuk University (South Korea) with strong links to the Korean Institute of Construction Technology (KICT).
He led the scientific development underpinning the current UK industry standard methods for flood frequency analysis.
