Martha Davey Employability Coach

Employability Coaches work in Careers to support students with their CVs and applications.

Career

Hello! I’m Martha, a second-year Social Sciences student. I’m still figuring out what I’d like to do after graduating. Right now, I want to do everything! My favourite areas within my degree are policy making and the politics of gender, and I’m particularly interested in how these concepts connect to real-world issues. I applied to be a Student Employability Coach because I wanted to give other students the same positive experience I had with Careers in my first year. I enjoy discovering what makes each student unique and helping them showcase those qualities in their applications. It’s rewarding to see people realise just how many opportunities are available to them.

I was lucky to be a Bath Insights Intern last summer, where I worked with the pre-sessional department, helping international postgraduate students integrate into British culture. Teaching a class of 34 was definitely intimidating at times, but it gave me a new perspective on education and motivated me to approach my own studies differently.

Alongside my studies, I’m involved in various roles at Bath, including being the Cost of Living Community Organiser, a Lead Peer Mentor, the Treasurer of the SPS Society, and an Academic Representative! I love engaging in student life and finding ways to make a positive difference.

When I’m not on campus, you’ll usually find me cooking, at the gym, or catching up with friends in one of my favourite cafés: The Green Rocket, The Good Day Café, or Nook (I’m open to more recommendations!). I’ll always make time for The Plug quiz on a Tuesday or the Bath Brewhouse quiz on a Monday; it’s the perfect mix of competition and fun. Back home in Eastbourne, I enjoy making the most of living by the sea, something I only started appreciating after moving to Bath (Warleigh Weir just isn’t quite the same!).
