Dr Ioannis-Albert Costas Batlle Internal Coach

Member of the University of Bath internal coaching network.

Role

Ioannis has worked for almost 10 years as an academic in the Department of Education at the University of Bath. The benefits he experienced from receiving coaching and counselling over the last seven years have led him to pursue a coaching apprenticeship.

He is an advocate for people re-connecting with their authentic selves as a gateway to achieve their goals.

As a coach-in-training, Ioannis creates a safe environment where non-judgemental curiosity about oneself can flourish. He draws on the listening skills he’s practiced for almost a decade as a qualitative researcher, as well as the hundreds of hours he has spent reading about evidenced-based approaches to human development.

Research

Specific areas of interest in relation to coaching:

  • Overcoming limiting beliefs that keep you stuck.
  • Managing and sustaining behavioural change.
  • Building confidence and addressing Imposter Syndrome.
  • Developing self-awareness and re-connecting with your authentic self.
  • Maintaining wellbeing and balance.
  • Returning to work after a long absence.

Career

Ioannis is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education. He researches the role of non-formal and informal learning in young people’s lives. He has been involved in projects including charities, youth groups, youth sport, and young people not in education, employment or training.

His previous roles at the University have included Director of Studies for the Education with Psychology undergraduate degree and Director of the Centre for Qualitative Research. These roles, as well as ample experience teaching and supervising students, have led to his coaching philosophy inspired by Walt Whitman: “be curious, not judgemental”.
