Dr Laura Wisby Research Development Manager
Laura supports academics in their research ambitions through expert funding advice, strategic planning and developing high-quality funding proposals.
Role
Laura is the Research Development Manager for life sciences and health funders in Research and Innovation Services (RIS). Her work includes identifying opportunities and developing high-quality research proposals relevant to:
- Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
- Cancer Research UK
- Medical Research Council (MRC)
- National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
- Wellcome Trust
As part of the Research Grant Development team, Laura facilitates workshops and provides skills training for improving grant proposal outcomes.
Career
Laura has more than 12 years' experience working for the Medical Research Council (MRC). After completing her PhD and postdoctoral research, she moved to the MRC Head Office as Board Manager for the Population and Systems Medicine Board, before joining RIS at the University.
Education
Laura's PhD in Genetics, and Post Doctoral research, were undertaken at the MRC Mammalian Genetics Unit in Harwell, near Oxford. She has a first class BSc (Hons) in Medical Microbiology from the University of Surrey.
