Stephen has worked on software with researchers in physics, ecology, life sciences, computer science, mathematics and collaborated with the Met Office and NATS.

Role
Stephen joined the Research Software Engineering (RSE) facility in December 2025.
He has designed and delivered software solutions for real-time systems, web, embedded and HPC (High-Performance Computing) environments using a range of technologies including Python, Fortran, C++, and LabVIEW.
Stephen is passionate about training for software skills such as version control, Python, Unix and basic HPC use.
Career
Stephen previously worked in an embedded RSE (Research Software Engineering) team at the University of Exeter, working with researchers in physics, ecology, life sciences, computer science and Mathematics, and with external collaborators from the Met Office and NATS (National Air Traffic Service).
Prior to working at Exeter, Stephen worked as an acoustician at Seiche Ltd (initially as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Bath), predominantly for acoustic modelling, signal processing and data analysis.
Education
Stephen has a PhD in moving meshing for numerical weather prediction from the University of Bath, which was an EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) CASE award with the UK Met Office.
