Leona Smith ResLife Community Support Manager

Role
Leona has started her level 5 apprenticeship in coaching and mentoring. Her previous work experience has led to a keen interest in coaching and alongside enhancing her own development, with a desire to support others in developing themselves. She feels the skills and knowledge learnt will have a positive impact on her current role.

Career
Leona is the ResLife Community Support Manager. She supports students who have needs around university accommodation due to medical conditions or disabilities and experience disputes with housemates.
Leona was a children’s home manager prior to working at Bath, leading a team to provide trauma-informed, therapeutic care to children and young people.
For 4 years prior to the home, Leona was a senior manager of a charity that was commissioned to deliver children’s centre services. She fulfilled tasks in various departmental areas such as line management, Human Resources, Health and Safety, overseeing and planning day to day operations, as well as leading on several projects. Leona was also a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Ahead of gaining promotion to management she was an outreach worker, providing support to vulnerable families and delivered several accredited courses.
Education
Education relevant to coaching:
- Level 5 operations / developmental management apprenticeship with CMI leading to chartered manager status.
- Prince 2 foundation.
- Level 2 in LGBT in the workplace.
Also trained to deliver various accredited courses such as the Freedom Programme, Baby Steps, Connect Five and Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities.
Other training includes solution focused therapy, active and reflective listening, Five to Thrive and trauma-informed practice, safer recruitment, and Mental Health First Aid.
