Helen Slater Student Governor

Will undertake the responsibilities of members of governing bodies as set out in the CUC Guide for Members of Higher Education Governing Bodies in the UK.

Career

Helen Slater is from Hampshire, and was educated at Amery Hill School and Havant & South Downs College in Alton. She went on to complete a BSc (Hons) in Sociology at the University of Bath, graduating in 2026.

Helen is the Education Officer of the University of Bath Students’ Union for 2025/26. In this role, she represents students on academic matters and works with the University to improve teaching and learning. Her priorities include ensuring an inclusive and accessible educational experience for all students. She also serves as a Trustee and Director of the Students’ Union.

As a student, Helen was involved in a number of roles within the Students’ Union, including Vice Chair of SUmmit (the SU’s student council), Academic Representative for Sociology, and committee member of the Vegetarian Society. She also enjoyed engaging with disciplines beyond her degree, including taking part in computer science hackathons.

Helen is also a member of the Finance Committee, Honorary Degrees Committee, and University Ethics Committee.
