The new Bath MPharm at Plymouth aims to increase the pharmacy workforce in the South-West of England to address a pharmacist shortfall. New for AY25/26, a preparatory “Year 0” of the MPharm will also be delivered. This year is designed to enable motivated students with varied academic backgrounds to gain the numeracy, chemistry, biology, and general academic skills required for joining Year 1 of the four-year MPharm. This project will co-create teaching resources for Year 0 numeracy collaboratively with existing students who have just completed their 1st year in Plymouth.

Firstly, the students will identify and review the maths and numeracy content that is core to Year 1 of the MPharm. Staff will use this map to plan Year 0 numeracy content that aligns with student needs. Secondly, the students will work with lecturers to develop and test team-based learning materials that complement the didactic content, aiming to best demonstrate core maths concepts in a pharmacy context. Finally, they will facilitate a focus group at the end of the year to gather feedback and suggest improvements. We believe using existing students as co-developers will ensure we produce relevant and engaging materials that will prepare Year 0 students for their course.
