Maria Harffy Document Delivery Librarian

Menopause Champion

Role

I've worked at the University Library for four years, in Academic Services and now in Document Delivery.

Why I became a Menopause Champion

I firmly believe in being well-informed about this significant stage in women's lives, which often goes overlooked. While ample information is available about hormones during adolescence and fertility in adulthood, there hasn't been much about menopause until recently. The prevailing notion has often been to simply endure it as a natural process without receiving much support or guidance. However, I believe the more we know, the better we can understand and handle it. This applies not only to those going through it but also the people around them who might be dealing with the symptoms.

This is a time when people need greater support. With children grown and many facing new responsibilities caring for elderly parents, alongside navigating menopausal symptoms, it's a period of change for many who could benefit from a supportive community at work.
