At its meeting on 22 February, the University’s Council appointed Annie Maw as Pro-Chancellor for three years from 1 June 2024. Annie will join existing Pro-Chancellor Ruth Foreman.

Annie is a well-known figure in the region, having been Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset from 2015 to 2022. She is a patron, trustee or president of a large number of different organisations and a strong role model for women and those with disabilities.

Professor Ian White, Vice-Chancellor and President said: “We are delighted to welcome Annie as our new Pro-Chancellor. Annie has taken a keen interest in the University’s work, particularly in relation to research. She has built strong relationships across the University and has done a great deal to build networks and to publicise our work. I am sure she will be an excellent ambassador for us.”

Pro-Chancellors play a key role in the institution but do not become involved in day-to-day executive management.
