Professor Richard Guy of the Department of Life Sciences has been awarded the 2023 Prix d’Honneur by the Académie Nationale de Pharmacie.

The award, first presented in 2017, recognises Professor Guy’s contribution, through work and professional life, to the Académie’s area of expertise. It is awarded without distinction of nationality.

Professor Guy’s research focuses on the barrier function of the skin, transdermal drug delivery, iontophoresis – the process of using a small electric charge to deliver medicine through the skin – and the prediction and assessment of skin penetration and drug absorption.

He was awarded the right to the title of laureate of the Académie Nationale de Pharmacie and an engraved medal at a special session of the Academy, held on 13 December 2023.

Established in 1803 as the Free Society of Pharmacists of Paris, the Académie Nationale de Pharmacie is a learned society of members interested in all aspects of pharmaceutical science and its applications. Alongside various scholarships, the Académie presents several annual prizes recognising excellence in the field.

Professor Philip Ingham, Head of the Department of Life Sciences, said: “This highly prestigious and richly deserved award reflects the international recognition of Richard’s many achievements and also brings reflected glory to the department. I am delighted for him.”
